Only last week we heard from VW on the last car with ICE engine produced at its facility in Zwickau, Germany. And now we get reports on Volkswagen converting another facility into an EV-production factory - that will be the one in Emden, Germany.

The automaker claims the factory transformation has already started, while first electric vehicles are going to leave it in 2022. Though at the meantime they will still produce Passat and Arteon models with gas engines. Afterwards, the Emden factory will also be “all-electric”.

VW is about to invest about 1 billion euro into the Emden plant transformation. It’s expected that the plant will produce approximately 300,000 EVs annually. Now the automaker is constructing another 50,000 square meters building for EV production expansion.
