Volkswagen to spend $50b on electric and self-driving cars

The expenses are planned for next 5 years


Today Volkswagen is one of the most ambitious about e-mobility and self-driving technologies automakers. The recent Board of directors meeting disclosed yet another major step in this direction.

VW plans to spend about 44 billion Euros (approx. $50 billion) on development and production of electric cars, self-driving technologies and digitalization of cars and production plants. The investment is scheduled on 5 years or by the end of 2023.

By the way, the sum of investment accounts for one third of VW's total budget for a given period.
