Toyota and BYD creates a new EV company

It’s hard to believe in 2020, but Toyota still did not release any production electric vehicle despite being one of the world’s largest car company. Though it seems that the automaker chose different approach based on partnerships with other companies that are somehow connected with electric cars.

For instance, one of Toyota’s latest major partnership involved CATL on another side - Chinese giant EV batteries supplier. And a few days ago Toyota announced yet another contract with one other company from China - BYD, the largest EV producer in the region.

BYD TOYOTA EV TECHNOLOGY CO. joint venture should launch this May. Both automakers have equal shares in the project. A new company will design and develop new electric cars, platforms and parts for such cars.

However, the joint venture’s products are aimed only at the Chinese market. There is still no Toyota-made electric car for the global market.
