Everything you need to know about the new Tesla Model Y
Tesla Model Y was unveiled on March 14th, at 8pm PDT. As usual, Elon Musk showed a new car personally.
Model Y is a compact SUV, built on Tesla Model 3 platform and aimed for mass market. Model Y's cognation with Model 3 results in very alike exterior and interior, despite the new SUV being larger - for instance, Model Y body height is just a little less than Tesla's flagship SUV Model X.
Specs
Model Y is going to enter production in several versions:
- Performance: 280 miles (480 km) range, 150 mph (241 km/h) top speed, 0-60 mph in 3.5s, all-wheel drive
- Long Range AWD: 280 miles (480 km) range, 135 mph (217 km/h) top speed, 0-60 mph in 4.8s, all-wheel drive
- Long Range RWD: 300 miles (540 km) range, 130 mph (209 km/h) top speed, 0-60 mph in 5.5 s, rear-wheel drive
- Standard: 230 miles (390 km) range, 120 mph (193 km/h) top speed, 0-60 mph in 5.9 s, rear-wheel drive
Each Model Y version will be equipped with Tesla Autopilot hardware. European-spec cars will also get a CCS charging plug, the same as Model 3 features.
Additionally, each Model Y has the glass roof as standard. There is also a 7-seats interior option available.
