Tesla Model Y received an extremely simple solution to freezing door handles and charging port

Tesla Model Y door handles seem to be exactly the same as they use in Model 3 sedan - in order to open the door you have to push it on one side and than pull the handle which appears. Even though such scheme is quite convenient in daily life, there is one major drawback - in a cold climate when the car’s body is getting covered by ice and owner forgets to activate pre-heating, it may be impossible to scratch the ice out of the handle.

When working on Model Y Tesla engineers have taken such minor things into consideration and thus created a simple solution to such problem. Model Y’s handles are a bit different from those on Model 3 - SUV’s ones may be pressed from both sides, thus making it easier to break the ice.

Yet another thing to make it more comfortable in cold climate is a charing port heating. In case with Model 3 it is possible to defrost it by activating the pre-heating mode. But Model Y is more convenient - the charging port is being heated automatically when it’s cold, preventing the ice appearance.

Such little yet useful improvements became known from JerryRigEverything Youtube-show. Its host took part in the Arctic test of Model Y in Alaska with some extremely low temperatures - check the full video:
