Tesla Model Y got an Off-road mode

The Off-Road Assist mode is yet another Tesla Model Y feature nobody knew about before the start of deliveries.

Compact SUV appeared to be well-equipped for the light off-road travels. In general, automakers include the ‘traction control off’ mode into such urban SUVs as the off-road assistive feature. Though, Tesla went further.


Apart from switching off the traction control as mentioned above, Model Y’s Off-Road Assist feature enables special way of torque distribution based on driving conditions. For instance, when wheels on one side lose their traction because of slippery or soft surface, the torque will be switched to another pair of wheels. Also, Off-Road Assist mode changes the accelerator pedal response for more gradual torque - this may be used for low-speed crawling.
