Tesla Model 3 is faster than Porsche Taycan on a racetrack

Dongchedi, being one of China’s biggest automotive media, recently completed a very hands-on test drive of Porsche Taycan Turbo compared to Tesla Model S Performance and Tesla Model 3 Performance with Track Package. 24h evaluation included the regular drag race, range estimation and hot lap time attack on a racetrack.

1/4 mile drag race was a discipline to compare luxury sedans - Model S and Taycan, while German electric car was slower: 10.99 seconds vs 10.56 seconds. Tesla also performed better during the range test and covered 505 km, while Taycan only reached 452 km.

However, the most captivating part of a test was the final one, where Tesla Model 3 joined the company for a time attack challenge. The smallest and cheapest sedan was the best one, completing the track in 1:15.78, while Taycan followed with 1:15.97 despite the rich racing heritage. Though, the difference between the hot lap times is not as big as the MSRP price - in China where the test was held Model 3 Performance is approximately 3 times cheaper than Porsche Taycan Turbo.
