Yesterday Tesla became one step closer to its aim of manufacturing battery cells on its own. The automaker placed an order for the manufacturing equipment.
Reportedly, Hanwha Group became Tesla’s supplier in this deal. Hanwha is a manufacturing giant from South Korea. The equipment purchased by Tesla would allow the automaker to make battery cells from the stage of battery formation. So far the procedure is ruled by Panasonic, while Tesla assembles the battery modules on its factories to install batteries into cars.

Probably, there are more details about Tesla cells manufacturing are to follow during Tesla Battery Day, which is scheduled on the middle of May.
