Tesla presence in China continues to ramp up. In one of his last interviews, Tesla China vice president Tao Lin told some exciting news.
⠀
First of all, Gigafactory in Shanghai seems to overpass the planned Tesla Model 3 first phase production rate already. It previously accounted for 150,000 cars produced annually, but considering the present weekly production rate it would be achieved for sure. Now Tesla aims at 4,000 weekly produced cars that would account for roughly 200,000 annual production rate. According to Tao Lin such figure will be achieved in June.

Moreover, Tesla Model Y production in China may start sooner than previously expected. Now the second phase of the Gigafactory 3 construction is going on a full swing - and it will bring the production space for Model Y assembly lines. The construction is going smoothly, allowing to finish the project by the end of this year. It means that the Model Y mass production may follow in Q1 2021.
