The Autopilot is undoubtedly Tesla’s main priority for the nearest future. And company is not slowing down with it - today’s main aim is to assure safe and persistent journeys in urban areas, including intersection passing and road signs and traffic lights correct recognition. Elon Musk earlier claimed that the fully autonomous autopilot - what Tesla calls Full Self-Driving Capability (FSD) - is under testing and should be available soon. However, Tesla customers are able to purchase it as the additional feature for a few years so far, even though it is a ‘virtual’ option yet. The company is being criticized for FSD price going up and down frequently - for instance, currently it costs $7,000 and would probably become more expensive when it gets closer to the FSD public release.

Though, there is a probability that Tesla may launch FSD as a subscription plan with a fixed payment - Tesla hacker with a nickname Green found the corresponding piece of code in Tesla app. This means that the vehicle may become fully autonomous only when you need it (e.g., when preparing for a long travel) instead of purchasing the expensive feature. It is also probable that Tesla would make also some separate Autopilot capabilities available for subscription, but there is no thorough information yet.
