Legendary BMW M5 sport-sedan may become all-electric in next generation, and its drivetrain should make it extremely powerful. That’s what recent UK’s CAR magazine report suggests.
⠀
According to the CAR’s information, next-gen M5 will get a 400-volt battery pack with 135 kWh capacity. It would have an impressive 435 miles or 700 km range (according to WLTP cycle which is not very close to real life conditions), though it’s not the main advantage of an all-electric M5. It’s all about power.
⠀
Its drivetrain would consist of three motors: one located in the front with 250 kW output, and two even more powerful motors in the back. The total output should exceed 1,000 hp, distributed between all wheels via torque vectoring system.
⠀
According to some recent reports, BMW refreshed its production process. Now the company is able to produce cars with internal combustion engines, plug-in hybrids and EVs based on the same architecture and within one assembly line. The next-gen BMW 5-series is expected to come in 2023, thus the M5 modification should not be coming to market before 2024.
