In the end of last week Tesla released a new version of its software under 2020.24 index. So far it is being received by Tesla cars in the US and China, though it is going to be available in other markets soon.
New release is quite interesting, so let’s take a closer look.
— New rear-view camera angles available while driving forward
All Tesla cars have very useful feature - rear-view camera stream may be played on the central screen any time, even when driving forward. That’s why the driver is always aware of what is going on behind the vehicle.
2020.24 update allows to add two more streams from the rear-facing Autopilot cameras located on side repeaters. Those cameras have a wide angle, being very good addition to side-view mirrors.
— Sentry Mode recordings are easier to watch
Now while watching the TeslaCam video it is much easier to move to Sentry Mode recorded events. Necessary part of the recording is marked with a red dot.
— Possibility to turn off automatic doors-locking while parked at home
In case if you don’t need your Tesla’s doors to lock automatically when you leave the vehicle being home, you may turn it off via the vehicle settings. The feature would only work at the location saved as ‘Home’.
— Battery preheating while heading to third-party chargers
One of the earlier Tesla software updates allowed battery preheating when the car is going to Supercharger (its location must be entered into navigation). When the battery is preheated, it will achieve highest charging rate quicker, reducing the overall charging time. 2020.24 software version allows to preheat the battery when driving to third-party chargers that are available on Tesla integrated maps.
— Interior camera on mirror finally becoming useful
Model 3 was the first Tesla model to have a little camera located on the interior mirror facing at driver and passengers. So far it was not active - Elon Musk claimed it will be used to prevent vandalizing events when Robotaxi is launched. Though since Tesla ridesharing is not active yet, Tesla engineers will receive images and videos this camera shots during road accidents to improve vehicles’ safety. Such data transition is voluntary, any Tesla owner may disable it in the settings menu.
