According to Reuters, LG Energy Solution assembled several samples of 4680 battery cells. Tesla is about to use such form-factor in its future vehicles.
4680 is the first cell developed by Tesla on its own and unveiled at the Battery Day last September. Those cells would allow to reduce production cost dramatically, and create a $20,000 Tesla vehicle as well.
Today LG produces cells for Chinese-made Tesla cars assembled in Shanghai. Though, Elon Musk claimed Tesla would be producing 4680 cells mainly on its own, even establishing new factories for this. However, LG hope to extend the contract with Tesla, expanding to Europe and USA, investing its capital into 4680 production technology.
