I-Pace is Jaguar's first electric vehicle which grabbed much attention since its debut, and even received the title of yet another 'Tesla killer'. Recently the team behind Km77.com brough the electric SUV to a serious test modelling several extreme road situations. That simualtions included the 'moose test' and Jaguar didn't pass through it as well as it might do.
Moose test is an imitation of a rapidly occuring obstacle on the vehicle's path. The car has to evade it not hitting the cones. Higher speed of the vehicle while evading the obstacle means that the chassis and safety systems will more likely be able to help the driver in case of a real accident.
Actually, Jaguar I-Pace has a very important advantage to pass the moose test successfully - it is the low center of gravity due to the heavy battery placed under the car's floor. However, the highest speed at which I-Pace didn't hit any cone turned out to be around 73 km/h (45 mph) that is quite poor result. In comparison, Tesla Model 3 managed to pass the test at 83 km/h (52 mph).
The reason behind the I-Pace's poor performance is the stability control system settings. When the driver started the evasive maneuver, ESC was overbraking the outer wheels leading to a loss of control of the vehicle. Check this via km77.com video:
