Honda claims cameras to be safer
Honda e is a compact all-electric hatchback that is expected to enter production soon. This car already deserves its attention thanks to it retro-futuristic look, inspired by old Honda models from 70-80s.
However, at the end of last week yet another catching feature of the car was unveiled. Japanese automaker announced that Honda e will be equipped with side cameras instead of mirrors as a part of standard equipment.
The image from cameras is transferred to a pair of 6-inch displays with a minimal latency. The displays are placed on both sides of instrument panel, so that drivers may drive the car in traditional manner looking to the direction where mirrors should be.
Honda also claims cameras to be a lot safer than traditional mirrors. Honda e owners will be able to choose from standard and wide-angle view. Displays are going to show a clean picture even at night and bad weather conditions. The cameras are designed to avoid as much water and mud as possible, staying clean.
Improved aerodynamics is yet another advantage. Honda claims the whole element to be 90% more aerodynamic, resulting about 3.8% improvement for the whole car. That means both higher range efficiency and less wind noise while going on high speeds.
