Electric BMWs should become more emotional while driving
Lack of noise is one of the biggest EV advantages, that unfortunately may turn to be the disappointment for some drivers. For decades the sound of internal combustion engines became kind of irreplaceable thing about passenger cars.
For some of us, engine sound is one of the way to ‘feel’ the car for advanced driving experience, added by the emotional aspect of driving. Electric cars aren’t able to bring such experience for their owners, though BMW decided to change the situation.
BMW’s upcoming EVs may get a special sound directed by Hans Zimmer - Academy Award and Grammy-winning composer famous for his work on Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy, The Lion King, Interstellar and more.
By the way, Zimmer itself claims to be the BMW fan: “I have always been a BMW enthusiast. As a kid I used to recognise my mother coming home by the sound of her BMW. I am thrilled to get the chance to design the sound of future electric BMW’s and create emotion for the future electric driving experience.”
The first project featuring BMW and Zimmer synergy was unveiled recently at the BMW NEXTGen event - that is a Vision M NEXT. Though, BMW did not offer test drives, so there is no demo of its sound from the cabin yet.
