First look at the Tesla Model S Plaid updated UI

15.06.2021

New central screen UI is obligatory for refreshed Tesla Model S and Model X, since both models got new displays with horizontal orientation. However, Tesla not only rearranged the design to fit new screen resolution, but completely revamped the experience of using its UI. By the way, in contrast to Model 3/Y that have horizontal screens from the beginning, while working with Tesla’s flagship vehicles UI its engineers had more freedom: while less expensive models have quite large part of the screen fixed to carry information for a driver (like speed and other controls), Model S/X have separate driver’s display for this.

Since first owners already took their vehicles’ delivery last week, the refreshed UI had already made its way to the Youtube. For instance, Drako Motors founder Shiv Sikand was kind enough to share his video, and Electrek made several images out of it.

By default, the screen shows large full-screen maps & navigation.  Also, there’s a little widget for a music app.

All apps may be launched and moved left and right, as well as up and down. This feature looks like one of the greatest upgrades of a new UI, introduced to make both driver and front passenger more comfortable.

As well, there are some changes in driver’s screen. First of all, the view became much better with a yoke steering wheel. Then, the UI elements size and forms are changed - for instance, Autopilot and Full Self-Driving block became much bigger.
